The compensation amount depends on the length of the flight:

Based on the EU Regulation 261/2004 if the disruption is caused by bad weather, strike or acts of terrorism the passengers are not entitled to a monetary compensation. In most cases airlines refuse payment without any legal grounds, hoping that the passengers will give up and will not look for their monetary compensation for your flight.
If you missed your connecting flight you have the right to choose between re-routing and reimbursement of the ticket price for the unused part of your journey and a ticket to the place where you journey began.
In case if you choose re-routing you have the right to:
- food and beverages relevant to the waiting time
- phone call, telex, fax message or email
- free hotel accommodation and transfer between the airport and hotel if the expected departure time is on the next day
