Passengers who have been affected by delayed and cancelled flights, who have missed a connecting flight or have been denied boarding due to overselling of tickets are entitled to compensation and are protected by special laws in many countries around the world.
These laws provide protection and clearly define the cases in which passengers can claim compensation for inconvenience caused and regulate the conditions under which such compensation is payable and its amount.
The rights of passengers in the European Union are protected by Regulation (EC) 261/2004. This Regulation covers all flights departing from the Union and flights arriving from third countries and operated by airlines registered in the EU. If your flight is not covered by Regulation 261/2004, it is very likely that you may be able to claim compensation under one of the local laws in non-EU countries.
